To simplify the distribution for suppliers
TripAdvisor has announced the acquisition of Bokun, a technology provider for the management of tours, attractions and experiences, purchase with which it expands its offer and offers suppliers technical solutions for the distribution in this segment for the travel website, which does not has specified the amount of the operation.
“As leaders of the sector, our opportunity in this space is enormous, we are committed to taking the sector of experiences much further than its current ‘online’ reach of 20%, and Bokun will play a key role in this mission.” affirmed the president of Experiences and Rentals of the company, Dermot Halpin, that has emphasized that with this operation the company initiates a new phase of the business.
Bokun is a business management software tool that acts as booking engine, inventory channel administrator and price management tool, among other tasks. Founded in 2012 and based in Iceland, it has plans to expand the team.
“This product is part of a very bright future for the industry, one that eliminates fragmentation, significantly increases and simplifies distribution for suppliers, and dramatically improves the shopping experience for travelers,” said Halpin.
Bokun offers subscriptions of 100 euros per month, compared to the standard commission of 5% -6% on the ‘online’ reservations usual in the sector, said TripAdvisor. The aim of TripAdvisor is to make its tool more accessible for short term reach a fraction of the percentage per reservation.

The co-founder and CEO of Bokun, Hjalti Baldursson, has celebrated the operation because it allows the company to serve “customers in all corners of the world” with significant growth potential.
