Tourism of Portugal elected Best Official Tourism Organization of Europe

Turismo de Portugal has just been elected Best Official Organization of Europe (Europe’s Leading Tourist Board) of 2019, a distinction attributed by the professionals of the sector who voted in the Word Travel Awards – European edition, awards equivalent to the “Oscars” of the tourism, today announced during a ceremony in Madeira.
This is the sixth consecutive year in which the National Tourism Authority receives the distinction, which for President Luís Araújo, “is above all, a recognition of the excellence of all the Portuguese Tourism collaborators who, daily, show themselves to be the height of this enormous challenge to lead the tourism of the future. The international awards that we have been winning in recent years show that the Tourism Strategy 2027, the strategic framework for the sector, is able to position Portugal as a destination that can (and should) be visited throughout the year and that provides , in all the territory, differentiated tourism experiences. Portugal has everything, for everyone. ”


Portugal was the big winner of tonight’s gala, winning the Best European Destination award for the third consecutive year.
Also the capital of the country was once again recognized as the Best City Break Destination in Europe and Best European Cruise Port. Algarve was distinguished as the Best Beach Destination in Europe and Madeira as the Best Island Destination. In total, in the different categories, Portugal received 39 awards (three more than in 2018).
The Word Travel Awards began to be assigned in 1993, distinguishing the work developed in the tourism industry, to stimulate competitiveness and the quality of tourism. The winners are selected worldwide, by professionals in the sector.
