The United States raises its travel alert to Burkina Faso to the maximum level in the face of growing insecurity

The United States Government has updated its travel alert for Burkina Faso on Tuesday to raise it to the maximum level, four, in which it recommends that US citizens not travel for fear of being victims of «kidnappings, crimes and acts of terrorism «.

In the alert issued, the State Department has ordered all minor relatives of US diplomatic personnel in the country to leave Burkina Faso as soon as possible and has announced that it has authorized the voluntary departure of that part of the personnel that is not essential, as well as that of their relatives.

«Terrorist groups continue to carry out attacks in Burkina Faso. Terrorists could carry out attacks anywhere with little or no prior warning,» the Department said in a statement.

In this regard, Washington warns that it cannot «offer emergency services to US citizens in much of the country.»

Burkina Faso is among the ten poorest countries in the world, according to the United Nations. This Tuesday has joined states like Somalia, Syria, Bolivia and Venezuela, which share level 4 of the US travel alert.
