The airport of Lanzarote will be called César Manrique-Lanzarote in homage to the Canarian artist

The Spanish Council of Ministers has decided to change the official name of Lanzarote Airport, which will become ‘Cesar Manrique-Lanzarote Airport’ in homage to the Canarian artist, coinciding with the centenary of his birth on April 24th.

Painter, sculptor and multifaceted artist, his work is closely linked to the defense of ecology and the environment, to the perfect interaction between artistic expression and nature and to the image and projection abroad of the Canary Islands, from which he was outstanding ambassador.

In addition, Lanzarote also contributed decisively to maintain the landscape values of the island of Lanzarote and its sustainable development.

For its part, with the name of the airport with the name of César Manrique, the Government wants to vindicate his memory and his figure as a creator eternally linked to the Canary Islands.
