Summer increases the arrival of Spanish students to the Costa del Sol

The summer period increases the segment of language tourism in the Costa del Sol, establishing itself as one of the main destinations for learning Spanish in Spain, compared to cities such as Madrid, Salamanca or Barcelona. According to data from Turismo Costa del Sol, in 2017, Malaga received a total of 16,692 students of Spanish, 17.6% more than in 2016.

In summer the number of foreign students who choose Costa del Sol as a destination to learn a language usually increases “considerably”. The reasons are the beaches and the climate, conforming as a “decisive” factor, together with the diversity of leisure and the quality of the courses that the Spanish teaching centers for foreigners offer at the destination.

This has been indicated by the Director General of Tourism Costa del Sol, Arturo Bernal, who added that the province of Malaga is positioning itself “as a leading destination for language tourism in response to the offer accredited by the Instituto Cervantes and the loyalty to the destination shown the students who come to learn Spanish. ”

From some language schools, like EF Málaga, they add that “the foreign student chooses Málaga not only for the sun and the beach, but also for being able to learn in a very Spanish environment, achieving a total immersion in the language. the number of students, going up “.

The study on Idiomatic Tourism in the Province of Malaga carried out by Turismo Costa del Sol shows that the province has about half of centers accredited by the Cervantes Institute of Andalusia, and 15% of the total of those in Spain. In 2017 the province of Malaga had 28 Spanish teaching centers for foreigners, spread over six locations, concentrating especially in Malaga (60.9%), followed by Marbella (13.0%), Benalmádena (8.7%) ), Nerja (8.7%), Ronda and Rincón de la Victoria (4.3% each).

Germany, the United Kingdom and Italy are the three main issuers of students, followed by the Nordic countries (Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland), the Netherlands and France. More than half of the linguistic tourists who arrived in the province of Málaga-Costa del Sol, were under 18 years old.

The promotion of the language segment is constant throughout the year. Thus Tourism Costa del Sol has organized in recent months several presentations of destination national and international students who come to the province to learn Spanish and other subjects, thus promoting the language segment and loyalty to these students. These presentations and commercial missions, both in Spain and abroad, have the objective of reinforcing this activity, taking into account its potential.
