Silversea presents its spectacular wine program to reinforce its reputation as the leading supplier of wines at sea

Selected by the company’s Wine Ambassador, Lawrence d’Almeida, Silversea has a selection of approximately 160 different wines. This selection is praised by wine experts to include one of the widest complimentary wine options on board a cruise, with approximately 70 different labels representing all the major wine regions of the world as well as each of the main grapes Wine, however, Italian wines have a particular relevance as a tribute to the company’s heritage. On most trips, a selection of the best local wines is also added to the list, allowing guests to taste excellent wines from around the world.

 

Designed with wine-related destinations in mind and by Silversea’s own Wine Ambassador or qualified sommeliers, the range of thematic wine cruises offers a series of unique wine experiences from around the world, from conferences and on-board tastings to excursions. Theme trips allow guests to sample an exceptional range of wines and expand their knowledge while visiting spectacular destinations and enjoying unforgettable moments.

 

From October 18 through October 31, 2018, Silver Whisper of Silversea will sail between Lisbon and Fort Lauderdale on a wine tour, for which the cruise line has partnered with Comitato Grandi Cru d’Italia and American Fine Wine Competition. The cruise will present guests with “old world” and “new world” wines, while navigating from one world to another across the Atlantic. First, guests can sample approximately 33 different varieties of high-end Italian wines, which will be provided by the Comitato Grandi Cru d’Italia, a famous committee that brings together the main Italian wineries to protect and promote the prestige of this illustrious viticulturist country. Later, there will be an addition of 19 varieties of the best wines of the United States, thanks to the association of Silversea with the American Fine Wine Competition. Vintners, journalists, wine magazine editors and co-founders of the prestigious American Fine Wine Competition (AFWC), Monty and Sara Preiser of Napa and Florida will join the trip as instructors / hosts. Monty and Sara will present the wines and / or winning bottles of the Double Gold Medal of AFWC from wineries named ‘Bodega del año’ to the guests of the trip.

 

Two illustrious members of the association of sommelier ASPI, Giuseppe Vaccarini and Gennaro Buono, former best sommelier in the world and best sommelier in Italy, respectively, will join a segment of the transatlantic trip, for the benefit of the guests: Vaccarini will accompany the guests On several shore excursions related to wine, Buono will organize an accredited preparatory sommelier course, which means that participating guests will disembark the Silver Whisper with a recognized sommelier qualification.

 

Four other wine trips are scheduled for 2019:

 

· Departing from Auckland on January 20 and arriving in Sydney on February 2, the Silversea flagship, the Silver Muse, will host the first wine trip of 2019. Organized by Lawrence d’Almeida, the cruise will introduce guests various varieties of wine and vintages in an intimate setting. In New Zealand, guests can enjoy a half-day tour of the Gisborne wine region; trips to wineries in Picton; and a tour of the Marlborough region. In Australia, guests will experience a trip to Ghost Rock Vineyard, among other attractions.

 

· On February 2, the Silver Whisper will depart from Sydney in the direction of Bali (Benoa), and will arrive on February 16. Also driven by the expert Wine Ambassador of Silversea, the 14-day trip will visit Brisbane, Cairns, Darwin and Komodo. A wide variety of carefully selected Australian wines will be added to the selection of complimentary wines. Among the enrichments, guests can enjoy a private tour of the iconic Sirromet winery in Queensland.

 

· The Silver Cloud will travel from Lisbon to Amsterdam between May 1 and May 13, transporting guests to some of Europe’s main wine regions. Visiting Oporto, La Coruña, Gijón, Bilbao, Bordeaux, Belle Ile, Douarnenez, Saint Malo and Le Havre, the 12-day trip will also incorporate the opportunity to taste the excellent cuisine of the whole continent, especially in Bordeaux, where guests will enjoy of an overnight stay. For this particular trip, the Silversea Wine Ambassador will select different wines from each country during the itinerary. Guests will benefit from interesting wine conferences and tastings on board.

Between May 19 and June 2, the Silver Whisper will cruise between London (Greenwich) and Barcelona, stopping at Honfleur, Saint Malo, Bordeaux, Le Verdon (Bordeaux), Bilbao, Lisbon, Cádiz and Málaga. During the route, guests will be able to participate in the 2019 edition of the accredited sommelier course on board, which means that they will leave with a recognized qualification. Guests can also participate in private visits of important wineries throughout the trip.
