Renfe-SNCF and Sète get closer with the Renfe-SNCF en Coopération High-Speed trains

Renfe-SNCF in cooperation launched on June 30th the 4th frequency Paris-Barcelona, announced at a special press conference in Sète, in collaboration with the Tourist Office, where were presented the figures of travelers and new frequencies that will stop at Sète from December.

Renfe-SNCF in cooperation will link daily Sète with Barcelona / Girona / Figueras from December 15, 2019, and will offer up to 3 round trips during the summer period.


Renfe-SNCF in cooperation, Sète Agglopole Mediterranée and the Sète Tourist Office presented the 4th summer frequency between Paris and Barcelonawith the novelty of a stop in the cities of Sète and Agde. The offer of trains that connect the cities of Paris and Sète to Barcelona each year in July and August, with stops in Figueras, Girona and Barcelona, has welcomed 4.5 million international travelers since its launch.

The press conference held by Mr. Yann Monod, General Manager of Elipsos Internacional (Renfe-SNCF in Cooperation) and Mr. François Commeinhes, President of Sète Agglopole Mediterranée and Mayor of Sète, also served to present the novelties that will come into effect at from December 15, with 1 frequency per day throughout the year and up to 3 frequencies per day that will link Barcelona, Girona and Figueras with Sète in the summer season.

Renfe-SNCF resumes the direct train between Catalonia and Paris with stops at Sète and Agdethrough the high capacity TGV Euroduplex (509 places) in order to meet the travelling demands during the months of summer.

A passenger profile study was carried out during the first semester of 2019 and the following data was obtained:

–    Regarding their country of residence, most passengers are French (30%), followed by Spanish (26%) and passengers from the USA (12%).

–   Regarding the reasons for travel, leisure stands out with 55% followed by personal reason (30%) and business trips (10%).

–      42% of users chose the Renfe-SNCF trains as a means of transport because of the convenience of travelling between two city centres while 28% said it meant less stress and greater confidence, followed by 21% who stated price as the reason and 21% the comfort of the trains.

The study concluded that the customer satisfaction rate is 89% and that customers value very positively the services, frequency of trains and destinations offered by Renfe-SNCF en Coopération.

Renfe-SNCF en Coopération has carried out along with the Tourist Office in Sète different communication and promotional activities to develop these destinations in the Spanish market. In 2018 press trips were organised to discover the two cities resulting in over 15 articles in the media.

The Barcelona-Sète route connects the two cities daily from June 30 to September 2 with a direct train in each direction, allowing a comfortable trip from one city centre to the other. The travel time from Barcelona to Sète is 2 hours and 45 minutes and is available starting from €29 per trip in second class. In addition to these direct routes, multiple other connections are available.
