Will lead the new Seven Seas Splendor in February 2020
Regent Seven Seas Cruises®, the ultra-oceanic cruise line, represented in our country by StarClass, announced that Captain Serena Melani will run the company’s newest ship, the Seven Seas Splendor, which makes it the first woman in the history of the cruise industry in captaining a new ship.
Captain Melani, 45, has made rapid progress in her nearly 30-year career in cruise ship leadership positions. He began his nautical career at age 16 as a cadet in his school years, working on cargo ships in his hometown, Livorno, Italy, and along the Tyrrhenian Sea in the region of Tuscany. After graduating from the Nautical College in 1993, she was one of the few women to perform duties of responsibility in oil tankers, freighters and container ships. Captain Melani joined Regent in 2010 as Bridge Officer, then held positions as Navigation Officer, Security Officer and Captain of Personnel at Seven Seas Voyager. She became the first master captain of the company in 2016 and has led Seven Seas Explorer, Seven Seas Mariner and Seven Seas Navigator during these years.
“Captain Melani has distinguished herself as a pioneer in the maritime and cruise industry,” said Jason Montague, president and CEO of Regent Seven Seas Cruises. “She is an international model and is admired by our guests and our team. We are proud to name Captain Melani as the first female captain in the industry to deliver a new cruise and we look forward to her future successes as the leader of Seven Seas Splendor in the years to come. “
“There is a growing number of very talented captains that are emerging in our industry, and we are proud to be pioneers for those women who aspire to lead the Bridge,” says Captain Melani. “Exploring the world and the main boat teams has been my passion and I enjoy sharing this enthusiasm with all those who sail with us.” He added: “I have always believed in the motto that the cure for everything resides in salt water: sweat, tears and the sea.”
Captain Melani, who lives with her husband on the picturesque Croatian island of Kórcula when she is not sailing around the world, will spend much of this year at the shipyard in Ancona, Italy, where Seven Seas Splendor is being built, collaborating with engineers and designers to guarantee the perfect form and function from the perspective of a captain. In this vein, it will have an influential role in the boat that perfects luxury, even before sailing.
With approximately 55,000 gross registered tons and with only 750 guests, Seven Seas Splendor will have one of the highest space proportions and personal / guest ratio in the cruise industry. The ship has the Regent suite, which will be the largest suite built on a luxurious cruise with more than 413 m2 of interior accommodation and a wraparound terrace of 120 m2, complete with a spa en suite consisting of a personal sauna, steam room and a cabin with unlimited treatments, views of 270 degrees on the bow of the ship and a seating area with glazed solarium on the top of the bridge with the same vision of the Captain. Regent Suite guests enjoy a personal butler to manage all the details of the experience, a personal car with driver and guide in each port, and the exquisite comfort of a $ 200,000 Vividus bed hand made by the renowned Hästens brand.
The comfort and style found in the Regent suite sets the bar for all suite categories on board, where guests will enjoy the most luxurious accommodations and the largest balconies of the cruise industry. The other suite categories vary from 28 m2 to 195 m2, all elegant, luxurious and dazzling. Throughout the ship, abundant glass chandeliers, paintings and sculptures, imported Italian marble and handmade furniture, custom designed, will create a captivating environment for guests.
StarClass now offers the possibility to book in the Seven Seas Splendor and of course its Regent suite.
