The city of Madrid will host the 42nd plenary session of members affiliated with the World Tourism Organization in autumn, the United Nations specialized agency for tourism promotion.
As reported by the City of Madrid in a statement, it is a two-day meeting that will bring together 300 participants «high-ranking companies and institutions from several countries on all continents.»
Madrid presented its candidacy to host this meeting in the framework of the International Tourism Fair (FITUR), held last January, and was a finalist with Durban (South Africa).
The plenary session of the members affiliated with the World Tourism Organization is the official «most important» meeting of the organization and is held annually, coinciding every two years with its General Assembly. Around the meeting there are a series of parallel meetings between the members and an international conference.
The Councilor for Tourism of the City of Madrid, Almudena Maíllo, considers this event «a very good opportunity, both for Madrid and for Spain, to give visibility to the tourist and cultural offer of the Spanish capital among affiliated members.» «We must also keep in mind that participants are potential prescribers of tourist destinations,» he said.
