Iberia’s ground staff at Barcelona-El Prat Airport have called new stops for September 21, 22, 23 and 24, the weekend that coincides with the La Mercè festivities.
According to sources from the Department of Treball of the Generalitat to Europa Press, the strike committee of the Iberia land workers in Barcelona have registered the call this Thursday before the department.
The staff of Iberia Airport Services in El Prat is about 2,700 workers, who are responsible for billing, boarding, loading and unloading, assistance and maintenance of airplanes, and provide services to some thirty companies, including Vueling , British Airways and Turkish Airlines.
THE NEGOTIATION, SUSPENDED
The management of Iberia has transferred this Thursday at the negotiating table to the representatives of the workers who “temporarily suspend the negotiation” of the XXI Land Collective Agreement for the succession of strikes in recent weeks in Barcelona, Bilbao and Madrid and the call of new stoppages in Malaga and Bilbao.
“This morning, the Barcelona Committee has voted to call new strikes at the El Prat airport in the coming weeks,” the airline said in a statement, which recalled that throughout the summer it has continued to negotiate with the aim of improving the conditions of all workers.
The ground staff, who already made strikes on Friday 30 and Saturday 31 August, Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 August, and Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 July, had called a strike to ask for more job stability and demand that temporary workers become fixed: half of the workers who are in charge of land services at Barcelona Airport are temporary.
