Germans, French and English are the foreign nautical tourists who sail the most in Spain

The Germans are still the main foreign nautical tourists sailing on our coasts renting a boat, but the percentage of French, English and Dutch has grown this year between 1% and 2%, according to the data of the rental platform ‘online ‘Nautal, who points out that Spanish customers, however, have been reduced by 5%.

The number of companies dedicated to nautical charters in Spain has registered a growth of 30% so far this year, a sector that has accounted for almost 29% of the total number of recreational boats registered, according to the data collected by the National Association of Nautical companies (ANEN), with data from the merchant marine.

The amounts and terms of the rents, has been noticed a reduction in the average amounts; as well as an increase of half-day and day rentals with respect to rents for several days or even weeks.

The Balearic Islands maintain the leadership as the autonomous community where the activity of the nautical charter is greatest, with a fleet of 2,700 boats for rent. In Nautal, 57% of the boats for rent listed in Spain, (1,862), operate in the Balearic Islands. In the Peninsula, Girona is positioned ahead of Barcelona and Valencia, meanwhile has ahead of Tarragona.

In the section of marinas, the Port d’Eivissa, with the largest growth of the charter fleet, 22.3%, and the Port of Palma, recorded the highest rental activity of pleasure boats. In the peninsula, the Olympic Port of Barcelona has surpassed the port of Denia; and the port of Alicante is one of those that has recorded a greater percentage increase, going from 26 to 60 boats for rent.

DOMINATED BY SMALL BUSINESSES

The business fabric of the yacht charter sector in Spain is made up mostly of small companies, generally with a fleet of up to five boats; which is the limit in which, by law, they can operate without hiring outside employees. Only 2.5% of the companies have more than 20 boats for rent, but they are the ones that manage 23% of the charter fleet in Spain.

In rentals for weeks, boats between three and four cabins continue to be the most demanded by clients and shipowners. In terms of brands, the Beneteau Group continues to be the one that monopolizes the greatest demand for recreational boat rentals in Spain, due to its high representation in the nautical charter market in the segments of sailboats, motor boats and boats.

They are followed by Jeanneau and Bavaria, with a high position in rental of sailboats; and Lagoon, as the most demanded brand in catamaran rentals. The yacht charter is led by Sunseeker, followed by Astondoa and Princess. The most rented semirigids are those of the Capelli brand that has surpassed Zodiac, in the 2018 season.
