Expedia partners with Meliá to promote the sale of dynamic packages to the US

Expedia Group and Meliá Hotels International announced on Thursday a strategic technological cooperation agreement that will allow the hotelier based in Palma de Mallorca to offer dynamic packages directly to the US point of sale on the www.melia.com website.

The agreement comes after similar announcements with other international chains, such as that reached with Marriott International, which on its website ‘Vacations by Marriott’ has technology from the ‘online’ US travel group, according to the travel company.

Under this agreement, customers who book at the US point of sale. from Meliá can combine their stay in the hotel of the chain in establishments of their different brands, with flight reservations in the more than 550 airline members of the ‘online’ group.

According to Expedia, this will allow attracting “greater volume of demand and income to this hotel group”, given that the stay in this type of reservations is one and a half times greater than in those of only accommodation. In addition, he notes that the cancellation rate is reduced by half.

“Using Expedia technology we can enrich the process of inspiration, planning and booking of our customers and, at the same time, attract guests who make longer stays, with reservations made earlier and with lower cancellation rates,” said the vice president. Meliá’s Global Development Senior, José María Dalmau.

From Expedia have valued the agreement that highlights the “strong investment” made by the group in technological innovation, is being amortized by its hotel partners. “Agreements like this show the growing interest of hotel chains in working with us in these initiatives that generate value beyond distribution”, said the senior director of Large Accounts and Distribution for EMEA-LATAM of the Expedia group, Luis Hurtado de Mendoza

Meliá has 380 hotels distributed in 43 hotels that operate under seven brands: Gran Meliá Hotels & Resorts, Paradisus Resorts, ME by Meliá, Meliá Hotels & Resorts, Innside by Meliá, Sol Hotels & Resorts and TRYP by Wyndham. In the United States it has three hotels (New York, Miami and Orlando).
