Puerto Rico is a Caribbean territory of the United States that receives three million travelers each year. Its accessibility, rich culture and gastronomy, its incomparable natural wonders, the excellent weather conditions that it enjoys throughout the year, as well as the hospitality of its people are fundamental attractions that make this Island a unique and perfect destination to host the next edition of the WTTC Global Summit, which will take place from April 21 to 23, 2020.
Brad Dean, CEO of Discover Puerto Rico, stressed that it is “an honor that Puerto Rico has been chosen as the host destination for the next edition of the World Travel and TourismCouncil 2020 Global Summit.”
Dean has pointed out that “the cultural richness and natural wonders of Puerto Rico are the fundamental elements upon which a wide and generous offer of unique experiences revolves. As a tourist destination, we are experiencing great growth and hosting this summit will further increase our tourism offer, generating a positive effect on our local economy. We hope that the world tourism industry will have the opportunity to discover all that Puerto Rico has to offer when we receive them next year. “
The announcement coincides with Discover Puerto Rico’s plan to increase the international presence of the destination, continuing with its mission to position Puerto Rico in the global panorama.
Becoming the headquarters of the WTTC 2020 Global Summit is part of the strategy of this tourist promotion entity to position the Island as a world-class destination for international travelers, which has an offer of internationally-recognized luxury hotels, air connections in constant growth and improved infrastructures, which make Puerto Rico the destination of the moment.
The WTTC Global Summit 2020 will take place in San Juan District, an urban complex of more than 20,230 square meters, which will open its doors at the end of this year. San Juan District will be dedicated to leisure, catering and entertainment and has been conceived as a reference space for events, conventions and concerts, which will become the most vibrant and popular in the Caribbean.
The tourism industry is one of the leading economic sectors and one of the main drivers of employment and global economic growth. In 2018 it grew by 3.9%, contributing to the world economy with the record figure of 8.8 trillion dollars and 319 million jobs. In Puerto Rico, the tourism industry employs approximately 77,000 people and has a direct impact on 17 sectors of the economy of this territory.
