Celebrity Cruises, one of five cruise brands operated by Royal Caribbean Cruises, has officially received the ‘Celebrity Edge’ after more than four years of planning and 23 months of construction, according to the company.
The President and CEO of Royal Caribbean Cruises, Richard D. Fain and the President and CEO of Celebrity, Lisa Lutoff-Perlo organized a ceremony aboard the ‘Celebrity Edge’, while docking at the shipyard Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint – Nazaire (France).
The Celebrity executive team was also present along with shipyard officials, including CEO Laurent Castaing, and 1,377 crew members from 72 different countries.
After the official ceremony of delivery of the ‘Celebrity Edge’, attendees crossed the shipyard Chantiers de l’Atlantique for the placement ceremony of the keel of the ‘Celebrity Apex’, where a block of 762 tons was lifted on the dock.
On November 6, 2018, the ‘Celebrity Edge’ will travel to Port Everglades, Fort Lauderdale (Florida) its new base port and operate on the new T25 terminal. There will begin its inaugural season by alternating seven-night cruises through the eastern and western Caribbean.
In the spring of 2019, the ‘Celebrity Edge’ will cross the Atlantic again to offer passengers seven and eleven night itineraries visiting emblematic cities such as Barcelona and Rome.
Bookings aboard the Celebrity Edge are already open and this will be joined by its twin ship, the ‘Celebrity Apex’, in 2020, and two additional ships of the ‘Edge’ class in 2021 and 2022.
